Story
Armand, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of overstepping his bounds with his best friend in elementary school. The official Norwegian entry in the “Best International Feature Film” category at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025. I understand why the film won the Camera d’Or at Cannes 2024, but for God’s sake, I couldn’t watch half of it. A famous single mother is called to her son’s school by an incompetent teacher-administrator duo to discuss an incident involving her son and his friend. It’s a great premise and Armand grabbed my attention, thanks in part to the great opening shot and overall camera work up to that point. But then the film gets into personal abuse territory and I still have no idea what the director had in mind, with a mix of sudden dance sequences and the actor laughing for 3 minutes straight. This is where it all started and the whole thing got so frustrating that you never get up again. (Seen at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024)
